[Cocky]

Ok! I'm not sure where to post this, but here goes:

I had a conversation with my sister about Keira Knightley. My sister is big in everything! Note that she has big bazooms.


We were watching a commercial about Pride & Prejudice with Knightley. I stated that she is a great actress, but for some reason I don't like her. My sister says she's really thin. I agree. My sister says she has no breasts and I agree again. My sister then said that she should get implants.

That's when I started to get iffy. I tell her that she would look ridiculous with implants because she's so thin. Then my sister says she isn't an A-cup.

I wonder aloud how that would improve her acting. She said not for acting, but because women have breasts, and you're not a woman unless you have breasts.


My jaw dropped when I heard that.

So I asked would a breast cancer survivor not be considered a woman if she had to have her breasts removed. She didn't say a thing and then her dad turned the TV up to finishing watching the Olympics.


That got me thinking about plastic surgery in general. But when I remembered that my sister kept saying (with disgust) that Knightley looks like a boy, I started to think about people crossing the gender box.


Sex is probably the biggest label we have. When someone changes it, it gets us thinking. It makes us wonder how far we are from being a man/woman and what really makes us different. It makes us feel uncomfortable and sort of queasy. This feeling is so universal that one of my lesbian friends refuses to be in the same room with her girlfriend's trans friend. She thinks it's despicable.

So I was wondering what the people of this open forum think about it. Why do you think we (those people that do) feel uncomfortable when they find out that the she was a he?
