A few weeks ago I was driving home and heard a cool new song on a major Dallas radio station... But I was stunned when I heard the lyrics. Take a listen... Can you see what I'm talking about?
I Kissed a Girl - Katy Perry
Of course some of our friends in the "swinger community" are saying this is "
the new swinger anthem". And I can see why.
To me this song represents a shift in awareness and acceptance that we are all unique, and that it's OK.
It's OK for a woman to admit she's sexually attracted to another woman, or a man to be attracted to another man - although not long ago
being attracted to people of the same gender was officially classified as a mental disorder. Yeah, definitely something to be proud of (end sarcasm).
It's interesting... just a few short years ago we were running radio ads with that same radio station and had to edit our ad to take out the word "gay". Seriously, in the year 2005 (yes, B.C.) you couldn't say the word "gay" in a completely innocuous way on a major Dallas radio station.
Perhaps we are growing as a people after all. Your thoughts?
