Default Try finding more about this new friend of your's before you trust him.

For instance, if you've known the guy for about two weeks, I wouldn't trust him to much because he might just rip you off, but if you've known him for say about a month, and you've heard pretty good things about the guy, I'd trust him. It's really all up to you. I'd say if you are just desperate to have a date, trust him. If you realize you don't need a date, don't worry about it, especially if you're a freshman. I didn't have a date when I was a freshman, but now that I'm a sophomore, I think I'm ready to have a date now that I've matured a little more and feel more responsible. So ask around other people at your school to find out what this guy is like, and if he sounds like a good guy, go with his plan. Another thing, your situation sort of sounds like a blind date to me. You don't even know the person you're going to go with, and you might not have the same interests, so it might not work out. It's still worth a try though. Like what the other commenter said, "you can just go with a few friends and maybe you will meet someone you like who isn't taken that is what I am going to do for my homecoming dance". You don't need a date to have a great time. Just go and have fun. The choice is your's though, good luck, and I hope you have a great time.
