Not to call him out, but it's possible that maybe he was looking for more than just friendly conversation at one point or another after getting to know each other.
Though, it's possible that he, as any older man would do, freaked out at finding out you were 16 because a lot of kids these days around that age have conversations with men that really were very clean and appropriate, turn around and make up lies of him saying dirty things.. so, maybe he was thinking it might happen. There's no telling his motives, the only way to truly find out is by asking him yourself.
