I'm in love with my best male friend and I'm not sure how to tell him!!!

Dear Dan and Jennifer,
I have been best friends with this great guy named Ben for almost six years. We're both 19 and about to begin our sophmore year of college in about a month. Because we've been friends for so long, we've had a series of ups and downs throughout our friendship but it has still managed to stay strong and I think through these trials and tribulations we have become very close friends, probably closer than most best friends SHOULD be. Now when we first became friends, which was in about the 8th grade I thought he was cute so I asked him out - he said no. A couple years later, at the end of our sophmore year of high school I gave him this two page love letter asking him out again - he said no again. But after the 2nd time I asked him out, he began to hang out with me more and wanted me to do more stuff with him, we began hanging out at each others houses and became close with each others families, you know we just became very very close best friends after that. I kinda gave up on the idea of dating him for awhile so I've dated a few other guys off and on over the past three years, and when those relationships ended Ben was there as a shoulder for me to cry on and was there to comfort me, like a good friend does I guess. So after we graduated high school I felt I was totally over him and I could go on with my life and meet a whole bunch of new potential boyfriends at college. Well it turns out that once we both started attending college,although it was the same college, and began to see less of each other, my old feelings towards Ben flared up again. So much so that I feel that I am more in love with him than I think I ever was before. I feel like I should tell him that I Iove him, but I am unsure of how he'll react to that confession, and am slightly afraid that if I tell him that I love him he'll want to end the friendship that has endured for such a long time. So what do you guys think? Should I risk our friendship by revealing to my best friend that I love him and want our friendship to be something more? Or should I just keep quiet and not say anything and remain forever in the "friend zone"? Please help me I'm begging you!!! I appreciate all the advice I can get.
