Ellen and Portia--Is America turning the corner on Gay Marriage?
Hello,
Look, I know, I'm usually on the Censorship/ Repression side of things, but one of my loves is to the GLBT community. My best friend, my late sister, and friends of ours are out to us and to our girls. Although our seven year old is clueless our oldest one is amazed at our range of friends on all sides of the spectrum.
I was watching "Ellen" today and she had her wife Portia de Rossi on her show (took her long enough) and I have to say it was sweet and loving. They were playful, funny, and you can sense from the moment she came on the stage this is a couple that will grow old together in love. My goodness, Ellen even staged a "Newlywed Game" complete with a Straight couple to play against.
And no one (from what I can tell) was phased one bit by the scene on stage. We've come a long way from that "Toaster" episode haven't we.
As a supporter it is really a great day; as a realist, I know there are still jerks who would have the GLBT community destroyed than sitting at "their" table. But I wonder how some of you feel about couples like Ellen and Portia. Do they help turn the corner of thought to accept gay and lesbian marriage to become a reality or will this cause moralist to rear its ugly head and use every dirty trick to keep many of you to find (as Al Green put it) Love and Happiness?
