Default Can anal sex cause cancer?

Hey. I'm a gay guy, and i have a boyfriend. We are planning on having sex, but i heard that anal sex can cause cancer.. is that true? Or do you have to do anal sex overly long to get cancer? Thanks.

I have never heard of such a thing before. Maybe its just something new I haven't learned.

To me that sounds completely bogus.

plus i found this on wikipedia:

Sexual activity: Having multiple sex partners or having anal sex, due to the increased risk of exposure to the HPV virus.[5] Homosexual and bisexual men are 17 times more likely to develop anal cancer than heterosexual men.

The only reason I disagree with your source is because it's Wikipedia. Yes its knowledgeable but it can be edited by anyone.

I will say this now after thinking about it for a little while, I guess it could lead to cancer because its putting things where they don't belong. But I think as long as your safe as in using lots of lube, taking it slow, and giving it time to prep its self before full on anal sex. I think it would be a lot safer and less of a risk. The reason for the cancer concern i think is because it could tear the muscle down there.

yeah.. you're right. i guess we'll just have to take it slow, use loads of lube, not exaggerate and not do it so often. thanks a lot. this question was bugging me for some time.

Default Anal sex does not cause cancer

One reply mentioned HPV or genital warts. The same kind that cause cervical cancer in women can cause anal cancer in men. The act of having anal intercourse alone will not lead to cancer. The best way to prevent contracting HPV or the Human Papilloma Virus is to use a condom and not to have intercourse while your partner has visible lesions. It is a virus however so even if your partner has the virus but no visible lesions there is still a risk you may contract the virus yourself due to tearing in the rectum and anus caused by friction. The same happens in a womans vagina during intercourse. Small tears can occur if she is not fully stimulated and properly lubricated. For gay men who engage in anal intercourse as the receiving partner the best way to be safe is to have your partner wear a condom and tell your doctor you have anal sex so they can peridocially check your retum and anus for HPV.
