How do I get over feeling shy around someone I don't want to date but am attracted to?

(Sorry, I don't know where to post this question)

A boy moved into my town back in middle school, and when I saw him in my class for the first time, I was immediately attracted to him. I tried to avoid him because I was so shy around him and couldn't think to get words out of my mouth. However, he is very friendly to everyone and he would say hi to me so I would say hi back.

In high school, we still saw each other regularly because we had classes together and he sat next to me on the bus to talk. Now I'm in college, we happen to go to the same college and have classes together. I still haven't gotten over how physically attracted I am to him.

I don't want to pursue a relationship with him, but he seems to really want to be friends with me. He is a wonderful guy, sensitive, social and friendly, dedicated, hard working and follows his passions, so I don't have any good reason to not be friends. I don't know to stop feeling and acting so shy so I have a normal friendship with him.

Have other people experienced this before? Any suggestions?
