Default Why does most sex ed not cover the issue of anal sex?

In middle school my school had a sex ed program that covered many things and was actually a decent attempt at educating us. The one problem I have found is that in the entire program not once did the issue of anal sex come up. Myself I have a sexual preference toward anal sex. However, my first time trying anal sex with my girlfriend at the time, we used no lube or condom thinking it would be safe that way. Since I have become more educated. I truly believe there needs to be more education and information given in sex ed about the practice of safe anal sex.

First off, I hope you learned from your first experience that you DO need lube AND condoms for anal sex. Lube because if not it can hurt the girl a LOT, and condoms because it can be one of the EASIEST ways to spread diseases!

Anyway. I'm glad you had a good sex ed class, but I'm not surprised that anal wasn't included. You won't find many class conversations about anal sex until college sex classes, and even then it's a little taboo (which can be a problem for any gay men in sex ed classes, dont you think).
I think it's mostly because it's still seen as a dirty, private, taboo act, even though people know its done.

In fact, some states still have laws AGAINST sodomy (anal sex), so its not surprising that its just not talked about yet. With any luck that should change when better sex ed curriculum come along.

Although hopefully middle school students haven't quite gotten to anal sex in their sexual adventures yet...

Have fun and play safe!

It's no surprise that that topic isn't covered. But there are several reasonable reasons:

1 - It has nothing to do with reproduction
2 - It is practiced by a minority of couples
3 - There is barely enough time to address STD and reproduction issues. Adding one more (contentious) practice is just not practical.

I would expect homosexuality to be covered before anal. And I rather doubt it is, either.

Default Because then sex ed would be fun

I think "how to give women orgasms" should also be taught in sex ed.
