To tell you the truth, I'd be pretty unnerved too if I came home to a scene like that. But you probably have nothing to worry about. Women use all sorts of things as sexual toys. I've never heard of someone using a chair leg, but I'm sure it's not unheard of. Perhaps she saw it in a movie/book or heard it from a friend. Or maybe she was just sitting there aroused, and wondered what it'd feel like. It's not uncommon for sexual experiences to come from pure curiousity. It's very likely that that's why she tried it.
Have you asked her why she did it?

Normal is an odd word when it comes to arousal. The number of toys on the market proves that their really is no such thing as "normal."

Safety, on the other hand, is a serious consideration. A chair leg doesn't sound so safe, especially when you can find dildos that are quite large and much safer.

I agree, it is narmal for women to experiment sexually with different objects. Not all of them will try a chair leg, but that was just something that she was willing to try. On the other hand, she will not have tried some things that other women have.

I think that you are lucky to have seen such a sight. I wish that more women were honest about these types of matrubation activities. Our society is a bit more accepting now, but taboos still exist.
