Whenever I've tried, old tendencies kicked in and made it impossible. Besides, intimacy (however long ago)is a funny thing, and I found it hard forge a friendship without intimate thoughts and memories affecting it somehow. I had a girlfriend way back when who's three best friends were her previous boyfriends. I didn't feel particularly threatened by it at the time, just wary that she didn't have many friends whom she hadn't been to bed with. When I pointed this out, she responded defensively, calling me "old fashioned" and "hung up." I guess I'm her one ex for whom she's no longer in touch.
