Have A Shower First

Of course, having your man shower before oral sex is a pretty good idea whether he’s circumcised or not. However, if he’s uncut, you’re really going to want him to wash up first. The reason for this is that in between the head of his penis (called the glans) and the foreskin, there can be build up called “smegma.” Yeah, awesome name for it, right? You might wonder why a man would decide, after being circumcised his whole life, would decide he wanted to have an intact penis. However, the drawback of non-surgical methods is that it takes a very long time for the foreskin to actually be restored. This can take several months or even years depending on the method used.

Basically what happens here is a device or tape is used to stretch the skin on the shaft of the penis up and over the glans. The device or tape will hold the skin there, allowing it to stretch. There are actually some devices made for this, such as the Dual Tension Restorer, that are available on the market for men to purchase. The stretching is usually done for several hours at a time and it is a similar concept to surgeons who use skin stretching techniques to create more skin to use for a graft. Studies show that stretching the skin stimulates a process known as mitosis, which will help regenerate new skin with similar properties of the old skin.

If you wish to restore your foreskin using a non-surgical stretching method, patience and determination are required. This is something you will need to be dedicated to, since it may take several months or even years to see results. However, with non-surgical methods, you are able to continue having sex as you normally would.

Artificial Foreskins

Artificial foreskins are available for purchase as well, which are simply placed over the penis and help cover and protect the penis from chafing like a normal prepuce would. The most notable model is the SenSlip, which comes in a variety of sizes and natural looking colors. It is worn almost like a condom would be, and can be moved back and forth just like a normal foreskin. This keeps the glans moist and protected, while still allowing the wearer to retract the device to use the restroom or to clean the penis. Manufacturers of the device report that after several weeks of wearing the SenSlip, sensitivity during sex is restored.

Surgical Restoration Methods

Surgical prepuce restoration is not desirable, but has immediate results. Unfortunately, procedures to surgically restore the foreskin leave undesirable results and are extremely invasive. The procedures are usually followed by pain, swelling, inability to have sex for an undetermined period of time and a significant risk of infection.

Usually what happens during a surgical foreskin restoration is a skin graft is removed from somewhere on the body (usually from the scrotum) and stitched on to the shaft of the penis, covering the glans.

Foreskin Regeneration

Regenerating the prepuce is a possibility, but not something routinely done in the medical community. This would be done surgically, under anesthesia. An incision would be made at the scar of the circumcision and the scar tissue would be surgically removed. After Restoration

Never Forcibly Retract The Foreskin  

When a boy is young, the foreskin is fused to the head of his penis, called the glans, and won’t easily retract. This is completely normal and healthy. When cleaning a boy’s penis at this stage, it is imperative to never forcibly retract the foreskin. If it doesn’t move easily, don’t move it. Wash what you can see thoroughly with gentle soap and warm water during bathtime and with a wet wipe at diaper changes. Until the foreskin retracts on its own, there is nothing more that needs to be done at this stage to keep an intact penis clean.  

When The Foreskin Retracts  

The foreskin begins retracting easily at a different age for everyone. There is no set “age” when a foreskin begins retracting. Many people believe it is not until puberty, while others believe it is more in the toddler years. Some boys will retract as early as 3-18 months while others won’t retract until they’re adults. It varies from child to child. When the foreskin begins retracting, it is time to pull back the foreskin during cleaning and rinse it with warm water. If your child is very young when this happens, this is something you will do until he is old enough to do it himself. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that “for the first few years, an occasional retraction with cleansing beneath is sufficient.” If he is older when his foreskin retracts, instruct him on how to pull the foreskin back himself and wash underneath it.  

Keeping It Clean  

An intact penis produces a good amount of a white, waxy substance called smegma underneath the foreskin. Smegma isn’t harmful at all, but it can cause a very strong odor to come from the penis. Washing gently underneath the foreskin is an important part of daily hygeine for boys and men. The American Academy of Pediatrics has published and regularly updates guidelines on how to care for a boy’s uncircumcised penis:  

If your son’s foreskin separates before he reaches puberty, an occasional retraction with cleansing beneath will do.

Once your son starts puberty, he should clean beneath his foreskin as part of his daily routine, just like washing his hair and brushing his teeth.  

Teach your son to clean his foreskin in the following way:

Step 1: Gently pull the foreskin back away from the end of the penis.

Step 2: Rinse underneath the foreskin with soap and warm water.

Step 3: Pull the foreskin back over the penis.

An Uncircumcised Penis

An uncircumcised, or intact penis, has a few distinct characteristics that help identify it. An uncircumcised penis has what is called a foreskin, which is a thin skin covering the head of the penis. In adult men, the foreskin retracts and is moveable, allowing it to slide over the head of the penis towards the base during an erection, completely exposing the glans. The foreskin then slides back into its normal position covering the head of the penis when it is not erect. Because the head of the penis is inside a protective covering, the skin of the glans is genrally very soft and moist. An intact penis produces a white, waxy substance underneath the foreskin called smegma, which is generally washed away during proper hygiene routines.

A Circumcised Penis

When the foreskin is removed from the penis during a circumcision surgery, the head of the penis is exposed to air and friction from underwear and clothes. While the glans is designed to be protected from friction by the foreskin, allowing the skin of the glans to stay supple, an uncircumcised penis must produce thicker skin cells in response to friction and air exposure. The head of a circumcised penis is dry and tough, much like the skin on your arm or other parts of your body that are exposed to the elements. A penis that is no longer intact has no foreskin, but most of the time the skin on the shaft of the penis will still move towards the head of the penis and back and generally won’t go over the head of the penis. In some circumcision cases, however, not enough skin is left after the surgery to allow for this movement. The most defining characteristic of a circumcised penis is the coronal ridge, or the ridge at the bottom of the head of the penis that separates it from the shaft. While uncircumcised men still have a coronal ridge, it is mostly hidden by the foreskin. The ridge is much more prominent on a circumcised male, and can be seen and felt easily.

Circumcised vs. Uncircumcised

Besides the way they look, there are quite a few differences between circumcised and uncircumcised penises. Penises with an intact foreskin have about 8,000 more nerve endings just within the foreskin, making the penis much more sensitive and receptive to stimulation. Circumcised penises, however, do not have to be cleaned as thoroughly as an uncircumcised penis, as there is n0 skin to pull back and clean underneath. Both circumcised and uncircumcised penises vary in size, shape, length and thickness. Men with either type of penis are capable of having a satisfying sex life and pleasing their partners sexually.

Is Circumcision Medically Necessary?

Medically, circumcision is not a necessary procedure. Society has told us for years that an uncircumcised penis is “unclean” and can get infections. Thousands of years ago, when circumcision first became popular, the surgery may have helped keep a boy’s genitals cleaner due to the lack of clean, running water and proper hygeine habits. Even then, however, circumcision was never necessary. A boy who is not circumcised does not face any health issues relating to his foreskin as long as it is kept clean like any other part of our body. To clean an uncircumcised penis on a young boy is easy – the foreskin is fused to the head of the penis and doesn’t separate until about age 7. Simply wash the penis with soap and water. When the foreskin becomes moveable, retract the foreskin from the head of the penis in the shower and again, wash with soap and water. This is generally all the care an uncircumcised penis needs to stay clean and healthy.

Whose Body, Whose Rights?

While many advocates of circumcision state that the child has no recollection of the pain of the procedure, that doesn’t change the end result. A child who is circumcised can never become uncircumcised, however, an uncircumcised male may choose to get the procedure later in life. While most body changing procedures, such as tattoos and breast augmentation, require the informed consent of the person being operated on or being tattooed, circumcision does not require the consent of the child, only the consent of the parents. Babies unfortunately can’t give informed consent for their genitals to be operated on and their foreskin removed. They can’t tell you whether they would like to keep their foreskin or whether they would like to have it removed.

Support For Circumcised Men

If your parents had you circumcised due to their own religious or societal beliefs, you may be left wondering why you never had a say in how your genitals looked or felt. It’s normal to be upset when you realize what was taken away from you before you even had a choice about it. Some devices and surgeries exist claiming to help restore the foreskin, however, it can only stretch the skin on the shaft of the penis to make it appear as though you are uncircumcised. The nerves endings lost during the original circumcision can never be recreated. There are many support groups for circumcised men to deal with their feelings about having their rights taken away from them and many men choose to advocate for circumcision rights.

Is It Different For The Guy?

Yes. An uncircumcised man still has his foreskin (the soft flap of skin that covers the head of the penis when it is not erect) and a foreskin is jam packed with pleasure nerves much like a clitoris is. While men circumcised at a young age won’t ever know the difference, men who choose to get circumcised when they’re older report decreased overall sensitivity. That’s not to say that circumcised men don’t enjoy sex, because we all know they do! It’s just that anatomy-wise, an uncircumcised males simply have more physical pleasure receptors in their penis.

Is It Different For The Girl?

Now this is more of a matter of personal preference than actual fact. Some women prefer sex with circumcised males, while others prefer sex with uncircumcised men. Some women report that the coronal ridge around the base of the head of the penis on an circumcised man more directly stimulates the g-spot as opposed to a coronal ridge that is partially covered by a foreskin in uncircumcised males. Other women feel that sex with an uncircumcised male provides more friction than their circumcised counterparts because of the extra skin, and sex is better that way. The way women feel about circumcision in general is very similar to the way they feel about penis size in general. Some women like ‘em small, some like ‘em large. Every penis is shaped differently, looks different, has a different color and is a different size. The only way to figure out if sex with a circumcised man feels different than having sex with an uncircumcised man is to figure it out for yourself!

Why Are Boys Still Being Circumcised?

Many parents are choosing to continue to circumcise their sons for religious or hygienic reasons. Uncircumcised males must learn how to properly clean underneath their foreskin once it becomes moveable (just after birth it is fused to the head of the penis for a short while) and this can be difficult for a small child to learn. Parents must often help with this, and many parents believe that a circumcised penis is more “clean” and hygienic. The opinions about circumcision range from those who believe it is a “barbaric” practice to those who suggest that remaining uncircumcised is extremely unhygienic. No one can make the decision for you though, and the decision to circumcise or not should be an informed one.

Whether you’ve had sex with an uncircumcised man or a circumcised man, both or neither, whether a man is cut or uncut isn’t a big deal. Don’t stress over it and definitely don’t make a big deal of it in front of your man. Just love the way he is! Sex is pleasurable for a woman both ways, and just as pleasurable for a man too!

Religious Beliefs

Circumcision actually stems from old religious beliefs, in the days where the lack of running water, soap and an abundance of sand and dirt made it difficult to keep a penis clean. Today’s families who do not have religious reasons to circumcise their children may still get their boys circumcised for cleanliness and even appearances. It is true that a circumcised penis is easier to keep clean, but as a modern society, we have the ability to teach our children how to clean their genitals properly, circumcised or not. Be Informed

Before making the decision to circumcise your child, or to have your own penis circumcised, it is important to research the topic yourself. Be smart about it – don’t make the decision blindly, just because your father had it done, or you don’t want your child to look different from other boys in the locker room. Actually sit down and read the information available on circumcision – and there’s a lot of it – to make an informed decision for yourself.

Does circumcision hurt? Yes! Babies and men who are circumcised are anesthetized during the procedure, but the healing period is quite painful for both babies and adults. Adults do have a reduced risk of post procedure infection however, as their fresh wounds aren’t sitting in a diaper all day, exposed to excrement. If you do have your child circumcised, ask your doctor how to best reduce the risk of infection and how to keep your child’s wound clean in spite of the fact that a diaper must be worn and the wound will be exposed to urine and feces. Does circumcision increase or decrease the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases? No! Does circumcision increase sexual pleasure? No – in fact, it can do just the opposite. The foreskin that is removed from the penis is packed with nerve endings that are extremely responsive to sexual pleasure in the same way that a woman’s clitoris is. So it’s safe to say that uncircumcised men do, in fact, have greater sexual reception than circumcised men.

If your religious beliefs or morals mitigate getting circumcised or having your child circumcised, go for it! But think about it first – what would your child say if he could choose? How many men have been circumcised only to learn later in life that they’ve lost a part of their anatomy that could have given them greater sexual pleasure – and they never had a choice about it? When it comes to circumcision, just think about it first!
